This method is a variation of Cumulative Energy Demand (CED) method, calculating Lower Heating Values (LHV). The characterization step is based on ReCiPe 2008 Midpoint (H) method. Weighting sets for Europe and the Netherlands are included. The monetarization is based on midpoint-level environmental prices, meaning that the values of environmental themes (impact categories) are used as weighting set. These are a change of the characterization factors for photochemical oxidant formation (used to be based on CML-IA, now ReCiPe 2008) and the inclusion of Water scarcity (based on AWARE).Įnvironmental Prices is a monetarization method developed by Dutch consultancy CE Delft.

This method is an update of EPD (2013), covering the changes introduced to the method in 2018. In order to make it compatible with other datasets provided in SimaPro, we aligned the flow names with SimaPro nomenclature and removed flows not used by SimaPro libraries, such as regionalized land use flows. The method was developed to be used with EF-compliant datasets, which use the nomenclature of the ILCDflow list. The implementation is based on EF method version 2.0. The method includes characterization, normalization and weighting. Below is an overview of the most recent changes, for more information, please refer to the methods manual.ĮF method is the impact assessment method of Environmental Footprint (EF), the initiative of the European Commission. Corrective updates were made in Cumulative Energy Demand and AWARE methods. ReCipe was substantially updated with normalisation and weighting data.

This release includes four new methods: EF method (adapted), EPD (2018), Environmental Prices and Cumulative Energy Demand (LHV)). New and updated impact assessment methods Several new processes were added to the industry data library, from two data sources. Worldsteel submitted corrections to PAH flow across several datasets. You can find more information regarding the changes in ecoinvent 3.5 and how it has been implemented in SimaPro 9.0 in our webinar recording. New data on concentrated solar power from parabolic trough and solar towers was added. Current and future electricity mixes are available on a country or even region-specific level. Version 3.5 covers close to 100% of (statistically represented) global electricity generation, in 142 countries.

  • Continuously updated electricity sector.
  • Key emissions from mines were updated for all geographies. New data on coal mining in India and South Africa include different types of mines. Version 3.5 now covers more than 95% of the global hard coal supply chains, showing global trade flows and regional hard coal mixes.

Additionally, 500 new country-specific disposal mixes are made available for 37 European countries plus Brazil, Colombia, Peru, India and South Africa. The expansion of the waste sector offers 150 new disposal activities, including unsanitary landfill, open burning and open dumping. New regional datasets for some activities provide an even higher resolution and more transparency in this sector. The update of the aluminium supply chain features the latest data provided by the International Aluminium Institute. The European sulfate pulp and corrugated board supply chains have been updated with the latest data from the respective industry associations. Fish processing activities, such as canning, curing and freezing are also included. Data related to anchovy, hake and tuna capture as well as trout and tilapia aquaculture were added. We also include a number of smaller improvements and bug fixes in the software, including a fix for recent issues loading Excel spreadsheets.īelow some highlights of the new and updated data in ecoinvent.ĭatasets on aquaculture and fish capture are published in ecoinvent. SimaPro databases are automatically converted when you open your database with the new SimaPro 9.0 (a backup copy is made as you cannot open the converted database with SimaPro 8). This update was needed to support the continuous increase in data in ecoinvent and other libraries. The main feature of SimaPro 9.0 release is the new database system which speeds up the loading of data and brings more stability. We also included ecoinvent 3.5 plus the latest methods.īy Michiel Oele, SimaPro Product Specialist at PRé Sustainability We are happy to introduce SimaPro 9.0! The latest version of SimaPro comes with an updated database system for increased speed and stability.
